ZoD: Mindful Minutes Challenge Complete

We’ve completed 465 minutes, that’s over 8 hours of meditation!

A huge congratulations to those who managed to stick it out from the very first mindful minute to meditating for the full 30 minutes.

I know meditation isn’t for everyone so if you took part in any capacity, well done for giving it a go.

The aim of this challenge was not only to introduce you to meditation but to also push you past your point of comfort. You see, sitting for a significant period of time sounds simple but as you may have experienced, it is far from easy.

Your feedback suggested that you have learned to sit with the discomfort of not knowing. It became easier once you got your mind around the fact that all you have to do is observe and accept your experience exactly as it is without changing a thing.

There really is a peace that comes with accepting things as they are in that moment.

Some of you may have had preconceived ideas about meditation, e.g. thinking that is solely a spiritual or religious practice, that you are supposed to meditate in a particular way or feel something specific like a higher state of consciousness when meditating.

However, from taking part in this challenge hopefully you have realised that meditating is a practice completely up to your discretion; it’s what feels most authentic and comfortable for you.

I also hope that we have now managed to dispel some of those myths. Although some meditations were easier than others over the past 30 days; from your feedback it appears that this challenge has been a pretty eye opening and enjoyable experience.

Thank you to everyone who messaged me and shared their thoughts.

Times have been hard for us all lately and I hope this challenge has given you some time to focus inwards and give yourself a break from the busyness of life.

What’s made me really happy is that some of you are now planning to implement meditation into your everyday routine! A mindful minute is better than nothing at all.

For me meditation/mindfulness is a means of protecting, coping and enhancing my mental health and overall wellbeing. I hope it can help you do the same too!

If you couldn’t take part in the challenge and would like to try meditation then do give it a go.
